Why Should I Study This Course?

Students with a strong enthusiasm, passion and aptitude for Mathematics who wish to study the subject in more depth than offered by the normal A2 Mathematics course. It is an opportunity for students to demonstrate an even higher order of mathematical thinking and many will go on to degrees in mathematical subjects. Indeed, some Universities will specify Further Mathematics as an entry requirement for some degrees (please see individual University websites for details).

What Would I Study?

In Year 12 students will study A2 Mathematics at an accelerated pace.
In Year 13 they will then study A2 Further Mathematics where they will cover new topics and study previous topics at a greater depth. New topics include complex numbers, matrices and hypothesis testing.

How and When is it Assessed?

There are a total of 6 examinations used to assess this course:
3 examinations for A2 Mathematics
3 examinations for A2 Further Maths
All examinations take place in the Summer, at the end of Year 13.

Where Can This Course Take me?

A Level Further Mathematics can lead to employment or further study in areas including;
Engineering, Sciences, Accountancy, IT, Actuary, Research, Education
