Curriculum Offer

Introduction

  • All courses are at level 3 [GCSE is Level 2].
  • There are three types of courses available to our students.
    • GCE A levels
    • BTECs and CTECs
    • T Levels - New from September 2020

Course Choice: Students will be expected to study 3 A levels [or equivalent], but a small number may opt for 4. They may start 4 where they are unsure of their pathways, then drop to 3 when they have clarity. Any student who has not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English or GCSE Mathematics, must continue to study those subjects.

A-Levels

Assessment

  • Assessed via Examinations [some subjects may have a non-examined element]
  • Examinations are undertaken at the end of year 13 and cover all material covered in years 12 and 13.
  • Grades A* to U awarded
  • Internal examinations throughout the two years course assess students knowledge & understanding

Entry Requirements

  • 6 x grade 6 [or equivalent]. This should include a grade 6 in the subject being studied
  • Students studying Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Geography, or Psychology should achieve a minimum of a grade 6 in Maths, but a 7 would be preferable.
  • Students studying Biology, Chemistry, or Physics who are following the GCSE combined science course would ideally achieve a grade 7 in that component

Vocational Courses

Assessment

  • Courses are broken down into modular units
  • All courses have a mixture of coursework and examined units
  • Grades Distinction*, Distinction, Merit, Pass, Fail awarded
  • Double Award equivalent to 2 A levels
  • Single Award equivalent 1 A level

Entry Requirements

  • 6 x grade 5 (or equivalent)
  • Students studying Engineering should achieve a minimum of a grade 4 in Maths and grade 4 in Science, but grade 5’s would be preferable

T-Levels

Assessment

  • New courses introduced in September 2020
  • Developed in collaboration with employers and businesses
  • Equivalent of 3 x A levels
  • Assessed by external examinations and project work
  • Includes significant Industrial Placement
  • Three pathways available: Digital, Health and Education & Childcare

Entry Requirements

  • 6 x grade 5 (or equivalent)
  • Minimum Maths Grade 4
  • Minimum English Grade 4

Course Choice - Additional Subjects

Students can undertake additional courses along side their 3 main subjects.
